A fatal head-on accident recently occurred in Connecticut, causing understandable shock and sorrow among family members of the victim. The victim's loved ones naturally might ask how this type of auto accident could have happened. The tragedy unfolded in the Route 4 area during the morning hours as a 58-year-old man was driving a car.
His car crashed into a pickup truck that another man, also 58, was driving. The car driver suffered severe injuries. He did not respond to emergency personnel who arrived on the scene, according to police.
The driver of the car had to be extricated from the vehicle. A helicopter transported him to a medical center. Authorities described his injuries as potentially life-threatening, and his condition remained critical at the hospital. The pickup truck driver did not appear to have any injuries but was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Authorities continued to investigate the accident.
The car accident victim may choose to pursue an independent investigation regarding the circumstances and facts surrounding the accident. If an investigation shows that the pickup truck driver was negligent in a way that caused or contributed to the accident, the truck driver might be held liable for the victim's serious injuries. Restitution from an effectively litigated personal injury claim can help to address emotional distress caused by the auto accident as well as cover hospital expenses and even lost wages. Evidence that the pickup driver was negligent must be presented in order for the court to rule in the victim's favor in Connecticut.
