Travelers choose interstate highways because there is often no faster way to get from one place to another. Unfortunately, when an accident happens at interstate speeds, a tragedy is often the result. One such auto accident recently led to the death of one person and injuries to two others on an interstate highway in Connecticut.

The serious auto accident took place on Interstate 91, just south of the state line, on an early December evening. According to police, the driver of one car collided with a metal guide rail. The impact caused the car to overturn and ejected the three people who were inside the car.

The driver died at the accident scene. The passengers suffered serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. The highway remained closed until early the following morning as a result of the crash. During the closure, the traffic on the interstate backed up for nearly 2 miles.

The two passengers injured in the auto accident may decide to file personal injury claims in this case. Even though the driver who allegedly caused the accident passed away in the collision, the individual’s estate may still be sued. In addition, if the vehicle belonged to someone other than the driver, he or she may also be held liable for the passengers’ injuries. The plaintiffs can pursue compensation for losses resulting from the crash. In order to prevail in a Connecticut civil court, it will be required for the plaintiffs to prove that their injuries were the result of the driver’s negligence.
