Man, 18, killed in Connecticut car accident

This time of year is very significant for young people in Connecticut. Summer vacation is about to start and high school seniors are graduating, meaning that for many, this is very much a time to celebrate.

What those feelings of exuberance are mixed with driving, however, the results can be tragic.

The death of an 18-year-old man in a car crash last Saturday in Waterbury is not necessarily the result of careless or reckless behavior, but we wanted to write about it anyhow to provide an illustration of what can happen.

The accident occurred around 6:40 p.m. when a Subaru Legacy and a Honda Civic collided with one another in the 1600 block of Highland Road.

Right now, authorities are not quite clear on what caused the two vehicles to strike one another.

The deceased man was a passenger in the Civic. The driver of the Civic and the driver of the Legacy were airlifted to nearby hospitals; the driver of the Civic remains in critical condition. The two passengers in the Legacy were taken to medical facilities by ambulance.

As we said, the accident is still under investigation, so we do not mean to presume that anyone involved in this accident was behaving improperly because he or she was in a celebratory, party-hardy mood.

That being said, we have worked as personal injury attorneys long enough to know that it is far from uncommon for young people to be hurt in car accidents caused by someone being negligent or inattentive.
