When motorists in Connecticut are out on our streets and highways, it is usually a fruitless exercise to predict which cars might end up in car accidents. In most cases, it’s usually too late to avoid an accident once it becomes apparent that a vehicle on the road might be troublesome.
It’s always possible, of course, to call law enforcement and let them know that a dangerous driver is on the road. Most of the time, such calls come from other drivers on the road. In a recent incident on a Connecticut freeway, however, a call alerting authorities to the potential for danger came from the dangerous car itself — thanks to a 10-year-old boy.
The boy was being driven on Interstate 95 by his father; the boy grew so worried about the peril he was in that he called 911 to say that he was thinking about jumping out of the moving car because he was worried he wouldn’t survive a crash — which he felt was inevitable.
Unfortunately, the boy was right about the car accident. Not long after his call, his dad’s car hit an SUV near a freeway exit, sending the SUV down an embankment and overturning it. The three people in that vehicle, the adult driver and two children, all suffered minor injuries. Police arrested the father of the boy who had called 911 on suspicion of several charges relating to drugs and alcohol.
