Three area residents lost their lives in a rollover crash along Interstate 91 near Enfield, Connecticut early in the morning on Sunday, Jan. 21.
According to police investigating the crash, a 20-year-old Plainville man had been traveling southbound along I-91 at around 7:30 a.m., that fateful day when his car apparently left the roadway. Soon thereafter, his vehicle crashed into a nearby tree.
It’s unclear as to whether the rollover occurred as the man’s vehicle left the roadway before crashing into the tree or after making contact with it. Nevertheless, all three of the man’s passenger were reportedly instantly killed from the impact of the crash.
The three male passengers that were lost their lives in the crash have been identified as a 18-year-old New Britain resident, a 19-year-old Southington one, and a 20-year-old Bristol one.
As for the driver of the vehicle, although he was transported to the hospital from the crash scene, he apparently only suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Police are continuing to investigate the series of events that led up to the crash occurring.
They haven’t yet ruled out driver intoxication, excessive speed or something else as the cause of the crash. If any one is believed to have resulted in the accident, then it’s likely that the driver will face charges in the case.
It also hasn’t been been ruled out whether inclement weather conditions or poor vehicle design may have led to the motorist to lose control of his vehicle either. Vehicles with a narrow profile or ones that sit up high off the ground like SUVs are notorious for becoming involved in rollovers.
