Pedestrian accidents can cause serious injury in Connecticut

When people are injured in a car-pedestrian accident in Connecticut, they and their loved ones are typically caught off guard due to the unforeseen nature of such a harrowing incident. In a situation where pedestrians are injured due to someone else's driving -- especially if that person was driving recklessly or negligently -- financial damages may be awarded in personal injury claims. This can help the accident victims to cope with the pain and suffering or the emotional distress that pedestrian accidents can cause.

In a recent situation in Connecticut, an adult and child were walking. That's when they were struck by a vehicle. The two pedestrians suffered serious injuries in the accident, although thankfully neither was expected to succumb to their injuries.

Both victims were transported to the hospital to receive medical treatment. Authorities said the driver of the vehicle that hit the two individuals did remain at the scene of the accident, so it was not a hit-and-run. Police continue to investigate the collision and it is not yet clear whether any charges or citations will be made against the driver.

The injured parties could have the right to file a lawsuit against the vehicle driver in order to seek reimbursement for any financial damages sustained in the car accident, which could help to cover expenses such as medical costs. Drivers who strike people on the side of the road in pedestrian accidents can be held liable if negligence or recklessness is established. Acts such as driving while distracted, speeding, failing to yield or stop or disobeying any other rule of the road could be considered negligent or reckless behavior, depending on the facts of the case. Once liability is established to the satisfaction of a civil court in Connecticut, claims for financial damages will be determined.
