Types Of Harassment At Work
Sexual harassment is the most common type of workplace harassment. It is prohibited under federal law and includes both physical and verbal behavior such as:
- Unwelcome sexual advances
- Lewd comments and jokes
- Inappropriate touching
- Displaying pornographic or obscene material
Sexual harassment is not the only type of harassment, however. Some other examples of workplace harassment include the use of racial slurs or bullying. Discrimination is illegal in the workplace, under both federal and state law. We are committed to helping employees who are being harassed or discriminated against based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, nationality or age.
What To Do If You Are Being Harassed
Your first step should be to request the behavior to stop. Speak directly to the harasser about the effect his or her behavior is having on you. Be sure to document these conversations, the harassment you have suffered and any conversations you may have with your employer about the situation.
If speaking with the harasser and your employer does not put a stop to the harassment, speak with a lawyer at our firm. We will investigate the situation and help you bring a claim to stop the harassment.
