Phones make a lot of things easier in life; they make communication between great distances easier and can help people access a large amount of data. However, phone addiction is an increasing trend.

It’s estimated that nearly half of all Americans suffer from phone addiction. Phone addiction can cause people to spend hours looking at social media and playing games. People who suffer from phone addiction can also use it at some of the worst times.

Getting rid of an addiction isn’t easy. But, knowing that reducing an addiction can make themselves and others safer can be a good motivation. Here are a few things drivers can do if they suffer from phone addiction:

  • Put the phone someplace out of reach, such as a glovebox, trunk or bag. If it can’t be reached, it can’t be used.
  • Turning the phone off can limit notifications. Some drivers are also reminded not to use their phones when they see that it’s turned off.
  • Turning silent mode can also limit notifications. Some phones turn on silent mode when it detects that it’s in a moving car.
  • Drivers could give their phones to passengers to hold onto. This can help the driver become more accountable for their actions.
  • Uninstall distracting apps. Some apps are made to attract people’s attention.

A driver can reduce their distractions but they can’t reduce others. Victims of distracted driving may need to learn more about their legal options when seeking compensation for their injuries and losses.
