Connecticut car accidents involving bicyclists often tragic

A bicyclist is vulnerable when riding near the road because he or she essentially has no protection against vehicles that move near him or her. For this reason, motorists on the road are encouraged to be cautious when driving near them. When bicyclists lose their lives in fatal car accidents in Connecticut due to other drivers' carelessness, the deeply upset loved ones who are left behind can rightfully pursue monetary damage claims, which can bring closure to the case.

One man recently was arrested after being linked to a fatal vehicle accident involving a bicycle. The crash, which occurred in the area of Route 302, resulted in the death of the bicyclist. At that time, the driver of the vehicle who allegedly struck the bicyclist left the scene of the crash.

Police later arrested the man at his workplace. His bond was set at $150,000. His charges included improper left turn, misconduct with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility of a fatal accident and tampering with physical evidence.

The man who struck the bicyclist will have to respond to his criminal charges. However, he might also face a wrongful death lawsuit if the dead bicyclist's family members choose to pursue a claim for monetary damages stemming from the accident, which can cover funeral costs, end-of-life expenses and other financial losses linked to the wreck. Other costs that are associated with these types of car accidents may be emotional distress, pain and suffering or even lost wages. If the driver is convicted of his criminal charges, this might help to establish his liability for wrongful death in a Connecticut civil court.
